Lovely little Jack visited the studio recently as one of the models for my latest newborn posing workshop. The three photographers who attended learned about the art and science of safely posing newborn babies, while working with both natural and studio lighting. We even had the chance to take some photos of the newborns with their families, which is a pretty popular request for newborn photography sessions and requires the photographer to not only pose and soothe the infant but also encourage older siblings to smile for the camera.
Heartwarming Newborn Photography: Jack and His Big Sister
Jack’s big sister, a beautiful, bright-eyed little girl, attended her brother’s newborn photography session and provided the student photographers and I with the opportunity to capture some truly touching images. This little girl is just in awe of her baby brother and the images we took are the perfect keepsake of such a special moment in time.
Because Jack’s sister was such a darling in front of the camera, the photographers and I took some photos of her on her own, in one of the studio’s princess in the park dresses no less. Princess dresses like the one featured here are available for all photo sessions, whether your daughter visits the studio for a sibling’s newborn photography session, your maternity session or child or family portraits. The dresses come in a range of colours and sizes, from 1 through 6, and accessories that include crinoline, tiaras and flower headbands are also available for use during the sessions.
You would never know it from looking at the images included here, but little Jack had a bump on his head from delivery. This is the perfect example of how Photoshop can be used to smooth imperfections that parents feel detract from their children’s portraits. Bumps like Jack’s aren’t uncommon and typically fade in the days and weeks following birth. A few touch ups and you would never know it was there.
I’d like to thank Jack’s family for bringing him to the newborn posing workshop and for allowing me to teach my students some techniques that are vital for newborn photographers to master. I hope this collection of portraits will be a cherished reminder of your experience that day.
