The workshop I recently hosted to teach an aspiring photographer the ins and outs of maternity photography was a great success. I’ve worked as a Toronto maternity photographer for several years now, and so I had a great deal of knowledge, useful tips and critical skills that I wanted to share with my student. Needless to say, it was a long and busy day, but my student left not only with an amazing collection of portraits to add to her portfolio, but also a better understanding of what it takes to succeed in the industry that is maternity photography.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, we photographed a total of 7 maternity models that day. Katelyn, a beautiful momma-to-be whose mother signed her up as a model for the workshop, joined us at a beautiful outdoor location, just before the sun set.
Katelyn is obviously very photogenic and the portraits we took of her are just stunning. I love the way her glowing complexion and beautiful red hair photographed in this lighting. The natural backdrops, which included a covered bridge and rows of leafy green trees, always provide gorgeous and unique settings for maternity photography.
It was so nice to have the opportunity to meet Katelyn. She has such a wonderful personality, you can’t help but be drawn to her. I wish her all the best as she welcomes her little bundle of joy into the world!
Why this Toronto Maternity Photographer Loves to Take Sessions Outdoors
Outdoor maternity photography presents its own set of challenges, because you never really know what Mother Nature has in store. Even still, I feel it’s important as a Toronto maternity photographer to show students how they can overcome these challenges and take advantage of the incredible, natural backdrops that are around them and that offer something no studio setting could ever replicate. Even when you visit the same location again and again, the images you take are always different.
