Some of you may already know that I’m not just a baby and maternity photographer, but also a teacher. When I’m not taking photos of beautiful little babies, pregnant women and their families, I’m teaching others the skills and techniques I’ve practiced and mastered over the course of my career.
I recently had the opportunity to work with yet another aspiring photographer, during which I took the images of the gorgeous maternity model and momma-to-be who is pictured here, Veronik.
Learning to Become a Maternity Photographer
It goes without saying that teaching someone the art and science of becoming a maternity photographer is best done by ‘doing.’ My student and I spent the entire morning going over studio lighting, followed by an afternoon photographing seven beautiful, expecting women. The class was valuable in that my student gained firsthand experience of what it’s like to be a maternity photographer and how to best conduct sessions with pregnant women, but she also walked away with an amazing portfolio of images that she can use to launch her new business.
A Beautiful Maternity Model
Veronik was one of the lovely women who volunteered their time that day and the first to model the new maternity tutu in my photography wardrobe. I just love how this dress hugs pregnant women of all shapes and sizes in the right places, drawing focus to their round bellies and producing a portrait that’s utterly feminine and beautiful. This is just one of several new gowns I’ve recently added to my collection, which is available to the women who hire me as their maternity photographer.
It isn’t hard to see that Veronik is naturally very beautiful, or that the collection of portraits we took are stunning.
It’s always fun to meet and work with others who share my passion for photography. I don’t just see my mentorship classes as another day working in the studio; when I’m able to pass on the knowledge and skills I’ve acquired while working as a maternity photographer, it’s my way of paying it forward in an industry I’m so thankful to be a part of.
Thank you so much to Veronik for joining us and for helping to make the day a worthwhile experience for the aspiring maternity photographer.
