When it comes to newborn photography, Toronto parents certainly have their pick of studios. The market is flooded with photographers offering to take baby portraits of the perfect little people who have just been welcomed into this world, which is why I’m so grateful when parents choose to return to my studio following the births of each one of their children.
This was the case when sweet little Lucas, a beautiful baby boy who had been born just days before, visited my studio with his parents and older sister. I first met this family just over two years ago, when Lucas’ older sister was born and his parents brought her to me for newborn photography.
Choosing Colours, Props and Backdrops for Baby Portraits
Selecting the outfits and colours that will be used during a baby’s photography session is always a combined effort on the part of the parents and myself. I give parents the freedom to personalize their children’s portraits while offering advice as to which colours will look best against a baby’s skin and how they will combine with the props and backdrops that are also used during the session. Especially with these portraits, the focus should always be on the baby, and so finding a happy balance and the colours and textures that will best highlight a baby’s features is always the goal.
I just love how the shades of grey in the hand knit outfit and posing pillows photographed against Lucas’ perfect complexion–he’s such a handsome little boy! The combination of colours and the varying textures combined to create a stunning collection of baby portraits, don’t you think?
Portraits with Siblings: Newborn Photography Toronto Parents Can’t Wait to Share
It was so neat to have the chance to see how Lucas’ big sister, the sweet baby I’d photographed when she was just days old, had grown into such an adorable little girl. She was very excited to have a new brother and more than happy to pose for pictures. The baby portraits I’ve included here beautifully depict the pride and love that Lucas’ big sister has for the newest addition of this lovely family, and I’m sure this series of images will be among the family’s favourites.
While incorporating older siblings into a newborn’s portraits session isn’t always easy, it’s something most parents want and something I’m happy to do. Years later, when the children in a family have all grown, it’s amazing for them to be able to look back and see how their love for one another existed even before they could say each others names.
I’d like to thank Lucas’ family for allowing me the opportunity to take his baby portraits. I wish you all the best in the coming days and weeks, as you settle into your new life as a family of four.
