When spring and summer finally roll around, I think most Canadians can’t wait to get outside, to breathe the fresh warm air and take in the incredible sites around them, as trees bud and flowers bloom. I know I always look forward to this time of year because it has so much to offer those who wish to take their pregnancy photography outdoors. I love discovering new places for pregnancy photo shoots and revisiting those where I’ve photographed clients in the past. Of course, it’s also great to get out of the studio every once in a while!
Pregnancy Photography in Toronto, Durham, Quinte, Picton and Beyond
Over the last few weeks, I’ve shared several sneak peeks of the pregnancy photography collections I’ve recently taken at many beautiful locations. Downtown Toronto, Durham Region, the Qunite area and Picton all have much to offer those seeking a unique setting for their maternity portraits.
Back in mid May, I visited one of my favourite local places with Lisa and her husband, a lovely couple who are expecting their first baby very soon. We met during the cherry blossom festival at a beautiful park location, a special place that offers many different and interesting backdrops for photos, from a covered bridge and still waters to tall grasses and incredible gardens that, at a very specific and fleeting time of the year, contain trees just bursting with cherry blossoms.
I’ve mentioned this before, but the cherry blossom festival offers such a great opportunity for those whose pregnancies fall at the right time and who want to take their pregnancy photography outside. The challenge, however, is that the cherry blossoms only last for about 6 to 10 days each year, and it’s also difficult to predict when the trees will bloom because it’s any time between mid April and mid May. This year, for instance, the long and harsh winter delayed the blossom festival until mid May. This being the case, those who wish to incorporate the cherry blossoms into their pregnancy photography should book well in advance and be warned that I can only accommodate a few sessions each year, during the festival.
Lisa’s Pregnancy Photography: A Stunning and Varied Collection of Portraits
As you can see from the sneak peek of images I’ve included here, we were able to take full advantage of this park setting and captured images of this lovely couple in many different types of settings. Flowering magnolia trees along with the cherry blossoms created stunning backdrops, as did the rock wall with blooming forsythia.
Lisa also wore a variety of gorgeous outfits during her session, some from her own wardrobe as well as items from the Chandra Lee Photography collection, and completed her looks with beautiful accessories and even high heels!
On that note, I feel it’s important to let all my pregnancy photography clients know that good walking shoes are recommended for outdoor photo shoots, as we cover a lot of ground to make use of as many of the different settings as we can, at the location.
I’d like to thank Lisa and her husband for choosing Chandra Lee Photography for their maternity portraits and I wish them all the best during this very exciting time.
