Despite the fact that I’ve taken baby portraits for nearly 700 infants at my studio, Chandra Lee Photography recently hosted the first ever portraits session with a little red headed newborn girl in Canada. Two years ago, I photographed a special little newborn girl with red hair in Perth, Australia, but never before had a red headed baby girl visited my studio for newborn photography in Toronto, until sweet little Maeve.
It’s not something that I typically give much thought to, the colour of the babies’ hair, but something as rare as a newborn with beautiful red hair is worth noting.
Maeve’s mom also has red hair, and so I asked her if she had secretly wished for her baby to be born with similar locks–she said ‘yes.’ My daughter’s hair is curly, just like mine, and I know that as a mother it’s particularly special when your baby shares some of your characteristics.
Personalizing Baby Portraits
One of the ways some parents like to personalize their children’s baby portraits is by choosing backdrops and outfits in colours that compliment those in their homes and particularly their babies’ nurseries. At my studio, you can find virtually every colour under the rainbow, and so Maeve’s parents chose props, backdrops and outfits that would go with her teal and grey nursery. The teal blanket and other accessories that were used in the baby portraits also complimented Maeve’s red hair beautifully.
I especially love the images we captured of mom and baby together, two beautiful red heads with a perfectly-hued wrap for mom and a lovely little hair piece for Maeve. I’m sure these baby portraits will be some of the family favourites from this collection.
Working in newborn photography in Toronto, I have the opportunity to meet special families and people all the time. There are often things that, years later, still stand out in my mind and remind me of those clients and the time we spent together. I certainly won’t forget sweet little Maeve, the first baby girl with beautiful red hair to visit my studio.
